I went back to the Pearl Market to buy another cheongsam. This time, for Achi Janice. I hadn't even been able to get to the bargaining part when the camera already ran out of memory.
I tried to get it down to 40RMB this time but wasn't successful. Instead, they gave me a plastic compass so that I'd agree to 45RMB.
Notice how there was silence after I asked how much it was. The reason being there were other customers and it just so happened that these customers were Caucasians. Caucasians, of course, are almost always ripped off.
And Achi Janice, I hope it fits. I tried my best. One other thing. I realized after watching the video that the reason for the minor confusion was that we were not thinking about the same unit of length while we were talking about the size. I was thinking in inches. She was thinking in... I don't know. A Chinese unit of measurement, perhaps.
c baby iel ibili mo din ng cheongsam!!! para mukha n sila mag-ina ni twinie-ni
ReplyDeleteNabili ko na. Kasama sa kahon na pinadala ko with your bluetooth. Again, sana magkasya.
ReplyDeleteis my memory really bad or are the salespeople wearing the exact same outfits they were wearing when you were last there?
ReplyDeleteIt's very much possible that they're wearing the same clothes. Baka uniform.
ReplyDeletei've never heard of a tiangge with uniformed salespeople before.
ReplyDeleteChina? I think I've seen several salespeople wearing the same thing so I'm pretty sure those are uniforms...
ReplyDeletewow!!!! sana nga para masuot nya sa baptismal party nya!
ReplyDeleteAba, Chinese-themed ang baptismal party!
ReplyDeletejonicham! i think she was measuring in centimeters. the conversion is 1 inch=2.54 cm. that's why she was only measuring half and getting a number close to what you were saying.
ReplyDeleteas for the bargaining part, didn't you get yours for 35rmb? ni tuey pu ma? or was it 50rmb and it was P350 that i remember? so these caucasians know how to speak chinese already? you should know better than to bargain with them there. hehe. but from your last video, she doesn't say the price out loud anyway. she just punched it in her calculator.
let's hope the medium fits. it should based on the measurements she's saying. if not, i shouldn't eat for a week. so what color is mine? yehey. i'm excited.
hay. pwede ba? bakit mo ba binibigay ng binibigay sakin buybuy mo?
ReplyDeleteHay. I don't know! Centimeters, decimeters, whatever-meters! You just have to get yourself to fit in it. I got mine for 45, the same as yours. She already forgot how much was the first one so I said 40. She was very shocked and asked if I bought two that time. I didn't say anything because I only got one. Uod's was bought in another stall. Anyway, 40 must already be waaay below the price they would agree to selling it for. I insisted it was 40. Finally, to pacify me, they gave me a plastic compass. Still 45 RMB.
ReplyDeletemalapit na magkaron ng uod junior. hahaha!
ReplyDeleteUh oh. When we were kids and she said she wanted to be a mom... I realize now how serious she was...
ReplyDeleteapparently she wants to be a mom many, many times over.
ReplyDeleteWell, come to think of it, she's the only one who got her original ambition.
ReplyDeletetrue, true
ReplyDeleteHey! I am one Caucasian who DOESN'T get ripped off. Because I swear a lot in Chinese when they try and they give me my price just to get me out of the store. My friends don't like my "causing a scene" in the shops, but I will not pay 4 times what I should not matter what!
ReplyDeleteYour bargaining technique is different from mine. I just act all nice and sweet. I don't think I sound convincing when I curse in Chinese. Remember, I sound "soft."
ReplyDeletewow!! first time i heard you speak mandarin!! galing joni... =) i think i forgot my chinese already.. i only remembered.. tuei! haha.. how much were those cheongsams? it's so expensive here.. but i'll try chinatown.. they look so cute.. the red ones especially.. =)
ReplyDeleteNaku, Cheska, don't even hope that you can buy one for the same price as I did. You're in the first world kasi :p. I got them for 45rmb each. Around P315, then.
